ABOUT US

As a congregation of the Minnesota Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church we seek to: grow in love of God and neighbor, reach new people, and heal a broken world.

We believe that we experience God as love, acceptance, forgiveness, and accountability.

As United Methodists we believe that a sacrament is an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace.  We believe that grace is available to all and can be sought through many avenues.

We offer Holy Communion once a month and practice an open table where all are welcome to receive this grace.

We practice both infant and adult baptism and believe that baptism is a gift from God that can never be taken away.

The United Methodist Church is a global church that emphasizes connection to the larger church while still emphasizing the importance of individual

action of the local church.  We continue to learn, grow and change as we seek to become complete in God;s love.  We are inclusive in our attitudes, because we believe that Jesus died for all people.

History

Immanuel United Methodist Church is a congregation that has been long rooted in the community and continues to grow today!  In 1861, just three years after Minnesota became a state, Maple Grove Immanuel Evangelical Church began with 18 members.  The first log church was built in 1864.

In 1946, the Evangelical Church denomination merged with the United Brethren to become Evangelical United Brethren and then in 1968, another merger happened that brings us to our current name, Immanuel United Methodist Church.  From the beginning Immanuel has emphasized a strong personal faith in Christ as well as being socially involved, especially having a concern for the poor and needy in our world.

Over the course of 160 years, the church has grown and new churches have been built, but all the time we have remained in our current location. Most recently we added a new sanctuary in 1980 and an addition of classrooms and offices in 2004.  This year we celebrate 160 years in ministry!  The ministry continues, giving praise and thanks to our past faithful members and looking forward to a future with hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
